Dharamshala Looks like Combine cricket with business

As the Indian Premier League (IPL) winds its way uphill a second time for the matches scheduled at Dharamshala's international cricket stadium next month, the state machinery is hunkering down to extract maximum business & promotional mileage out of the fixtures.

As the sale of tickets has already started at newly opened counters, the district administration has swung in to action to spruce-up Dharamshala town & identify additional facilities away from the stadium.

Deputy Commissioner RS Gupta says, I have already held some preliminary meetings with the hosts Punjab Kings XI organisers & Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) officials. They have been told to sell tickets with proper serial numbering so that buyers get space in the stadium in the coursework of the matches.

The organisers, Gupta says, must first make an exact assessment of the stadium's capacity about twenty,000 people & then earmark seats for complimentary passes & sold tickets. Thus they will avoid issues which crop up at the last moment making it practically feasible for the administration to keep people with tickets outside the stadium. HPCA General Secretary Sanjay Sharma, currently camping at Dharamshala, informed that a new 72-room hotel The Pavilion built by the Association for providing standard accommodation to players & management is prepared this year. Teams will must make their own arrangements for hotel accommodations but the Association will help them in doing so.

On the tourism side, says Arun Sharma, Director Tourism,We are soon going to have a gathering with all hoteliers at Dharamshala. A number of them, including HPTDC, have already started getting queries & net booking. The work will be to make sure that those coming to watch the matches ought to extend their stays in Himachal Pradesh at least by day, & also arrive a day before the match.
