Clearly sending a message across to the doubters, who feel that ageing cricketers should not be picked for national duties, Jayasuriya insists he is still not completed with playing cricket.
Speaking to Gulf News, Jayasuriya vented his disappointment with the Sri Lankan squad for the concluded ICC Cricket World Cup and said, "I was disappointed when I was not picked for the World Cup. I have been part of the team and also in the [30-man preliminary World Cup] squad and when I missed it, I felt disappointed. Our chief selector Aravinda De Silva said that he picked the best 15 players for the World Cup, which I don't think was the best. However, I don't need to comment on that much."
A veteran of 444 ODIs, Jayasuriya is also expecting a place in Sri Lankan line-up for the approaching limited overs series against England. He said, "I hope to be selected for the England one-day series. I have been playing in the provincial series and have played well and got most runs in the domestic season. If I receive a chance I will give my best again for my country or I will continue with my preparations for the approaching Sri Lankan Premier League (SPL) in July, which is going to be a large and fascinating match."
