India vs Australia: 1st Day Highlights of Boxing Day Test

By Electing a bat Australis didn't get the sort of opening they would have desired as Indian pacer Umesh Yadav got rid of opener David Warner and after an over later picks Shaun Marsh on a duck to when the Aussies are at 46/2.

Later former Aus skipper Ricky Ponting and opener Ed Cowan combined to provide the much-needed stability before rains stopped play minutes before lunch when the score was 68/2.
Soon the former Aussie skipper Ponting completed his half-century in style and he was  supported by  Cowan, who too completed his half-century a little later. An edge off Ponting (62) was nicely lapped up by VVS Laxman in the slips cordon and his 113-run stand with Cowan came to a close as Aussies lost their third wicket on 159.

At the tea time score was 170/3.

Then after Hussey and Clarke were batting nicely for some time but meanwhile Zaheer Khan struck to remove Aussies skipper Michael Clarke and Michael Hussey on consecutive balls which reduce aussie teams score to 205/5. Zaheer got his first wicket, nice and clean, dislodging Clarke's stumps but the second one was a bit doubtful. Unfortunately for Hussey there's no DRS in this series

Two quick wickets and India were back in thick of things and that's when offie R Ashwin, who was bowling in tandem with Zaheer struck to send dangerman Cowan back to the pavilion. An edge off his turner was cleanly taken by Dhoni and the man was walking back after a fine 68 and Australia were looking in bad shape with 214/6 on board.

At the end Peter Siddle and Brad Haddin added 63 runs for the sixth wicket to push Australia's total to 277/6. The two were on the crease at close.

So till now India  restricted Australia to 277/6 on Day 1
