Mickey Arthur Says Nobody is assured of a Place in National Team

Australia coach Mickey Arthur made it clear that nobody is assured of a place in the national side and he also warned former captain Ricky Ponting that he will only be picked for this winter's four Tests against India on merit.

Arthur said: "Ricky is vital to where we want to take this team but I don't think anyone's guaranteed a start and we're really hoping he finds his form and hopefully his form is just around the corner."We'll discuss that again tonight and make sure we've got all our bases covered in terms of selection. He said "We are really hoping that he finds his form and hopefully that form is just around the corner.

Ponting and middle-order batsman Michael Hussey have been struggling for runs for sometime but all hell broke loss after they failed to save Australia from the ignominy of losing to New Zealand at Hobart -- their first defeat in 18 years.

Arthur, a member of Australia's five-man selection panel, will help decide on Ponting's immediate future on Tuesday.

Australia begin the four-Test series against India with the traditional Boxing Day game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 26 December.
