Gilchrist : Azhar Has Made A Nice Impact For Kings XI

Defending a target of 157, Punjab bowlers led by all-rounder Azhar Mahmood held their own at the death as they restricted the much-vaunted CSK batting line-up to 149 for eight.

Underdogs Kings XI Punjab scored an upset seven-run victory over defending champions Chennai Tremendous Kings in an Indian Premier League match, here, on Saturday.

Chennai stay put on nine points from as lots of matches while KXIP are on eight points but occupy the eighth position despite their fourth win.

Mahmood played an useful hand at the rear scoring a quickfire 18 off 12 balls and then had impressive figures of for 25 which also included the prize-scalp of Albie Morkel who was accounted in the first delivery of the final over. Man of the Match Mandeep Singh scored 56. Later, stand-in captain David Hussey and Adam Gilchrist were all praise for the former Pakistan international.

David Hussey: I think they played impressive cricket'¦ They thought they had runs on the board. Everything worked to the designs. They had couple of overs from Praveen Kumar and a couple of overs from Azhar Mahmood. It's halfway mark and a win away from home is a sure advantage.

The following are the excerpts

Mahendra Singh Dhoni: They started off much. But, they managed to confine them'¦ They bowled well in the middle overs. (Ravichandran) Ashwin did an excellent job. But, I think, they didn't do that well in the spinning department. They had another spinners who could bowl only overs among them. They did a few decisions in the batting-order that didn't work out. That's and a reason why they are on the losing side. They thought if (Wriddhiman) Saha could turn the strikes for four-five overs, it would be ideal
situation for the fireworks in the last overs.

Mandeep Singh: I desired to play my game'¦ enjoy my game'¦ do my things right. That ultimately paid off. I am happy but not satisfied. I could have done better. It was hot and humid. In Punjab, they don't get these types of pitches. I must say, heat got better of me.

Adam Gilchrist: Azhar (Mahmood) has been impressive together with his whole approach and the attitude. They is level-headed and wishes to share it with others on the field as well as off it. They definitely has made a pleasant, tiny impact for us. It's a disgrace that they couldn't convert that in to a giant knock, but these are the kind of small moments of impact. It definitely gave us the impetus, and they has been dying to get in to the top order.
