To important win KKR Team Leaded By Gambhir

Kolkata Knight Riders got a tiny bit closer to the IPL5 playoffs, beating holders Chennai Tremendous Kings in a closely-contested game at the Chidambaram Stadium. Chasing down 140 in the final over, Kolkata strengthened their second spot in the points table with 13 points, below Delhi.

Kolkata lost the toss but did well with the ball. Economical spells by Jacques Kallis & Sunil Narine meant that Chennai seldom gained the desired momentum in their innings, finishing with 139-5.

Skipper Gautam Gambhir had a shock early in his innings when Albie Morkel struck him on the helmet with a bouncer, knocking the team crest off it.

Gambhir, whos been in fine form this season, was woken up by the knock. They put the crest back on the helmet & proceeded to play of his usually combative innings.

The chase appeared straightforward with Gambhir adding 70 for the second wicket with Kallis. But Dwayne Bravo bowled Chennai back in the game with their wickets.

They made 63  his third score in the 60s in the match, to go with the 93 they had made in the last game  taking Kolkata closer to the target.

Enter Debabrata Das, a player Gambhir has marked for better things. Das smashed the next delivery for powerfully wide of long-on to settle the game.

It left Kolkata six to get from the final over. Yusuf Pathan, whos been in dreadful form with the bat, opened up the game further when they tried to slog Ravichandran Ashwin & was caught at midwicket.

Gambhir was man of the match, but selected to give it away to Das. The 25-year-old is yet to play First Class cricket & has had a couple of impressive cameos & sharp fielding to show in IPL5.
